Shativank

Among the rocky mountains of Vayots Dzor, like the churches of many monastic complexes, Shativank also is hidden from human eyes.

The monastery complex was built in the 10th century, but as a result of numerous reconstructions it lost its original appearance.

The monastery complex in the Middle Ages played an important role both from the point of view of spirituality and from the point of view of education, science, crafts.

The building of the most beautiful church is still preserved inside the destroyed wall, in the wall of the tomb of which there is a secret passage and fragments of frescoes are preserved on the wall of the altar.

There are many remnants of buildings in the courtyard, there are many traces and remains of buildings outside the fence. These structures served both the spiritual servants of the church and secular citizens.
