Lake Sevan is located 60 kilometers from Yerevan in the Gegharkunik region. It is of volcanic origin and is surrounded by high mountain ranges. Seva is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world, the second largest after Titic Lake with a huge supply of drinkable water. Located at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level, 28 rivers and streams flow into it. The only river originating from Sevan is the Hrazdan, with water from which I irrigate the gardens of the Ararat Valley. Lake Sevan is rich in biodiversity. The most popular fish species are Sevan trout, baleen fish, gegharkuni, which are endemic listed in the Red Book, as well as mate fish, whitefish and others.

The basin of Lake Sevan was also the cradle of a man living in the Armenian Highlands. The shores of Sevan have preserved a huge cultural heritage worth exploring and visiting.
