Noravank monastery

Noravank monastery complex stands far from the eyes among the reddish mountains of Vayots Dzor. 

It was built in the 13th century and connects the names of two outstanding Armenian architects of the Middle Ages with the names of Momik and Siranes.

The monastery complex is located deep in a gorge stretching between steep mountains.

The complex consists of a number of buildings: churches, a vestibule, a mausoleum, numerous khachkars, structures of economic importance,  a museum, etc.

Noravank was one of the largest centers of science and culture of the Middle Ages, here people were engaged not only in spiritual work, but also a school functioned, sciences were studied, art was taught.
