Historical and Ethnographic Museum of Echmiadzin founded in 1964, is the largest museum in the city of Vagharshapat.
About 15,000 exhibits are stored in the museum's vaults, of which several hundred are represented in three halls of the museum, in the departments of archeology and ethnography.
The entire collection represents various cultural strata, starting from the early Bronze Age and ending with modernity.
The archaeology section presents the dwelling of primitive man, household and cult items, weapons, jewelry and even a copy of a real tomb.
The ethnography section presents an excellent example of a tonratoon with a traditional hazarashen covering, reflecting the model of a sacred house common in the Armenian Highlands from the late Bronze Age to the present day.
Buckets and other various interesting pieces of furniture for the house of the late Middle Ages are also presented.
