Erebouni fortress

One of the most famous cities of the Urartian / Ararat kingdom is the fortress of Erebuni.

It was built on the territory of modern Yerevan in 782 BC and written evidence of its construction has been preserved.

The fortress city of Erebuni was built on a hill called Arin Berd, which offers a beautiful view of the city of Yerevan.

In 1950, regular excavations of the Erebuni fortress began, which continue to this day, revealing more and more interesting evidence.

A museum was built at the foot of the castle in 1968, which presents the huge heritage excavated not only in Erebuni Fortress, but also in Shengavit and on the Karmir Blur (Red Hill).

The Erebuni Museum building was built by analogy with the Urartian palace buildings.
