Magellan cave

The Mageli or Magellan cave is located in Vayots Dzor region, 115 km from Yerevan. The cave is one of the largest in Armenia, but only 1.7 km of it have been explored. 

The cave is rich in many halls that are connected by corridors with narrow or steep passages, many of which can be dangerous. 

The cave has a unique microclimate. Once it was in transoceanic environment, traces of which have been preserved on the walls of the cave. 

Stalacmides and Stalactides were also formed there due to minerals. Traces of ancient human activity were found in the cave. Endemic and Red-listed species of bats and insects live in the cave.
